Divine Consciousness

Holidays come and go. Over the years the same holidays feel quite different, my perceptions changing with the circumstances of my life. Perhaps you have noticed an evolution in your own experience. How was Christmas, or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa for you as a child? Did your early perceptions change with adolescence? Did your experience match the story-books or were you aware of not-so-happy undercurrents around you or within you?

As a child, I was excited. I still have that one beautiful doll with her handmade clothes from my grandparents and aunts. I recall the joy of buying a gift for my mother. Later, I didn’t feel such excitement. Christmas was a difficult time emotionally for my dad and, with lots of younger siblings, it was never about the gifts. As a young woman, it meant going home which was both happy and sad. Happy for the promise of family love, sad for the unfulfilled longings of that same love.

The Reach of Love

the need for love

I suspect many of us have that experience with family – the empty space of our unmet hope for the absolute reassurance of being loved. If we are wise we know that we, too, have been inadequate in the reassurance we have given them. Nothing about family, friends, nor ourselves is perfect. The reach of love doesn’t solve all problems or resolve all suffering. Others can’t satisfy our need to feel loved nor can we provide that for them. Newer relationships are also sticky and have a habit of repeating the past. Where we were not ‘met’ as children, we still are not seen today.

Embracing Divine Consciousness

So what is the possibility of these winter holidays with religious and spiritual significance for so many of us? My own wondering and experience lead me to believe the holidays are about receiving. Not receiving gifts but receiving the Divine Consciousness that is the unceasing breath of life of the universe and each of us.

This receiving isn’t about giving. It is taking the gift of magnificent creation that has been handed to us. It is not about judging the gift or thinking things should be other than they are. Nor is it a Pollyanna perspective in which we deny the suffering and pain. It is recognizing the gift, the love, and the perfection that underlay ‘things as they is.’

Elevating Your Consciousness

divine wisdom

Think of the moment you receive a wrapped package from someone you love and you fear you may not like it. You open your mind, trust the love behind the gift and receive. It is the same with God. Elevate your consciousness, trust Divine wisdom and love, and receive. Let the energy come through you and pass on to those you love and all the earth.

This is a different state of consciousness than we are generally used to holding. Generally, we evaluate, judge, and have an opinion about how things ought to be. We struggle to let go of expectations. This holiday season, give up the struggle and receive the world as it is knowing the essence of all things is Divine.

Divinity of the Universe

spirituality and consciousness

In the words of Jesus, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” That time is here now if we can hold our hearts and consciousness open to receive the divinity of the universe and every being this holiday season.

Meditation: Sandra Egli

The wisdom of a thousand generations guides you today. Only listen. Without a sound their voices reverberate in your cells. Settle within and choose your path.

All of us come from strength, fortitude, perseverance. No matter how difficult their lives, our ancestors made it through and passed on life for the next generation. Over and over, until it came to you. The intelligence that guided them has also come to you.

To Thine own Self be true.

If I could present you with a single blessing, it would be the gift of Mindfulness. Awareness of yourself: body, emotions, and self-talk, all the time. Our immediate experience is the ultimate exploration that only grows richer with time. What we do or don't do, and the roots of our behavior, are accessible with the simple practice of noticing immediate experience. It is this practice that makes it possible to know and be true to ourselves.

Sandra's graceful way of listening & non-judgmental demeanor allowed me to open up effortlessly. I was certain, as I left her office, that I had received precisely the healing I needed.
