There are many forms and purposes of meditation. This is the most powerful I have encountered. It will reveal yourself and your life to you. It will unlock what has held you back from happiness and enable you to fulfill your potential.

This is a reflective meditation to be practiced over time, with patience and trust. It is it not intended to take you into bliss. It calls on the higher powers of ourselves and of the universe and the first places you will enter will as likely be those of sorrow.

What holds us back from the elusive dream of reaching our full potential?

Even if you understand that your background and upbringing have given you challenges and constraints, there is something deeper that has held each of us back in life. Simply, it is our own angry child-self, the aspect of us that never grew up. The child-self is the child who refuses to be mollified, holds grudges, hates his parents and wants to kick and scream and kill.

It may be difficult to admit the existence of this child that lives in you, yet she does. She comes to life when you are stubborn, arrogant, or angry. She was hurt and in her turn, she refuses to forgive.

So what does this have to do with unlocking potential and increasing joy?

The child is frozen and resides in the unconscious. She needs the consciousness, the patience, and understanding of your adult ego and the power of a new form of meditation to heal. As she heals, her world will be transformed.

3 Step Meditation Process:

The first step begins the meditation with a prayer:

With this prayer you take into meditation the anger, hurt, or dissatisfaction you harbor at this time. Drop into your body and listen within. Allow yourself to contemplate the problem and feel your suffering. Whatever memories come up are all to be admitted and welcomed no matter how painful. You may benefit to make notes as you do this.

Your meditation is not about the shortcomings and failures of others. It is about you and the places you got stuck as a child. It is about the decisions you made and the behaviors you adopted. It is about what is embedded in you.

None of this says that others behaved with maturity or love. But what matters is you and what you decided, what you killed off of yourself and where you cut off the people around you. These are the choices that haunt your life, your work, and your relationships today. These are the ways in which you hold yourself back from fulfilling your dreams.

In this first step you are exploring the grain of truth that is your part in what went wrong. You are looking at the original causes, the results, your misunderstandings and the price you have paid. To do this you must be willing to admit your destructive side. The paradox is this: that the more you know how little, mean, and petty you are, the more you will also come to know the Greatness you are as well.

Step two is the process of reforming the attitudes and beliefs of the destructive child. Honesty is the essence of the first step and that honesty makes it possible to form a new way of thinking about whatever upsets us. However, compassion and patience are the essence of learning to perceive events in a new light.

It is difficult to accept that we have an aspect of ourselves that is destructive and that we are not so enlightened as we have wanted to believe. Now we must integrate new understanding into our thinking and behavior. The effort to do this will take us back to examining our part and accepting our past behavior with kindness.

Should you get stuck in the place of saying, “I cannot change. I’ve tried but I cannot,’ then you add to your meditation prayer these words. “I am stronger than my self-sabotage. I will overcome the blocks in me that want me to stay unhappy.”

The result of this effort will be diminishing self-hatred and correspondingly greater self-love. As you begin to love yourself more you will no longer need others to make you feel special.

Step three is expanding yourself and thus creating a new and better life. You will discover new confidence to take risks and be at peace in whatever comes your way. You will trust that whether your dreams are fulfilled or not, your true underlying desires will be fulfilled. Though it may look different than what you earlier had in mind, the universe will bring the truth of what you seek to you.

Nothing can be rushed, not the insight into your behavior, not the process of reorienting your thinking, and not the fulfillment of your desires. The steps will overlap, retrace, and turn again. They will call on your commitment to know yourself, love yourself, and be all that you can be. As you work with this process, Fear will disappear from your life and Trust will grow large.

This is the most powerful form of meditation available to you who seek to fulfill your potential and find great happiness in this life now. I recommend this to break open and heal any place of pain you have been unable to resolve.
